Tuesday, 17th november 2,015

On Tuesday, we reviewed again the conditionals.

Do you remenber how to do it?
Here we can resolve your problem:

FIRST CONDITIONAL

It is use in possible or probable future events.
 Structure: If+subject+verb in present simple
                 subject+will/won't(negative form)+verb.

Example: If Elena studies, she will pass the exams.

SECOND CONDITIONAL

It is used in imaginary or unlikely situations in the present or future.
Structure: Subject+would+verb in infinitive.
                If+subject+past simple.

Example: I would meet the president of USA if I were famous.

THIRD CONDITIONAL

It is used for hypothetical events or situations in the past.
Structure: If+subject+had+past participle
                Subject+would have+past participle.

Example: If he hadn't gone to the meeting, he wouldn't have made new friends.

AS LONG AS/PROVIDING THAT

Sometimes we need to impose specific conditions or set limits on a situation. In these cases, conditional clauses can begin with phrases such as as long as(siempre y cuando), so long as, only if, on condition that, providing that(a condición de que) provided (that) and unless( a menos que..)
As long as is more common in speaking.

Examples:
-People will help as long as they are aware of the problem.
-I will go to the meeting unless I am too busy.
-Provinding that they work hard, they will succeed.

WISHES AND REGRETS

Wishes for change in the present.
Structure: Subject+wish+past simple/past continuous.

Examples:
-I wish I were rich.
- I wish we were going on holidays this year.

Regrets about something in the past.
Structure: Subject+wish+past perfect simple.

Examples:
-I wish I hadn't drunk alcohol.
-I wish we hadn't insulted Mario.

Complains about a thing or situation.
Structure: Subject+wish+would+verb.

Examples:
-I wish my mother would treat me right.
- I wish she would count on me.
